Read all about it Mexican President Vicente Fox has proclaimed the US decision to expand the border fence "disgraceful and shameful" and a violation of human rights. SOOoooo, the fact that Mexico is so corrupt these poor souls who risk life, limb, and family savings to come to the United States across dangerous deserts because they cannot find work in Mexico, the fact that they can't enroll their children in schools, the fact that they can't get medical care because Mexico is essentially a bankrupt, pathetic country that should really be very rich because it has as many or more natural resources as the United States, THAT'S not shameful? And our attempts to prevent our beautiful and pristine California countryside and coastline from being overrun by millions of poverty-stricken people from a corrupt country IS?

And then he goes on to offer this ominous warning:

"It would be hard to know what would happen to the economy of the United States if it wasn't for the enormous contribution, the productivity, the quality of work of our countrymen in that country," Fox said.

Yeah Vicente, it is great that they will do work that even a black person wouldn’t do. Except they don’t pay taxes, and they send large portions of their earnings back to Mexico. I wonder what effect few million extra taxpayers and their discretionary income would have on California’s economy? California spent $635 million in 2003 incarcerating criminal illegal aliens, over $700 million for health care of illegal immigrants, and 2.2 billion on education for the children of illegal immigrants-But I guess that’s the price you pay for quality strawberry picking and janitorial services.

Another “enormous contribution” Mexico has made is to our prison population: In Los Angeles County, 95% of all outstanding warrants for homicide are issued for illegal aliens, and two thirds of all fugitive felony warrants are for illegal aliens. It is estimated that 60% of the 20,000 member 18th street gang in Los Angeles are illegal aliens, and other Mexican gangs, which make up the majority of all California gangs, have a similar constituency. 27% of all federal prisoners are illegal aliens. And of these criminal illegal immigrants in the US, 58% are from,-you guessed it-Mexico. I wonder how many human rights they violated? Maybe Presidente Vicente is foxier than we suspect: If the border gets tighter, these guys will be stuck in Mexico next time we deport them.

And even if none of that were true, it’s our country and it’s our laws--Try going down to Mexico and breaking one of their laws; If only US citizens in Mexico got the treatment we give these lawbreakers…
