Read all about it Got boobs?
"The breasts are so sexualized."
That's a statement that earns an award for the biggest "DUH!" Homer Simpson could muster. If you want to breast feed, in public, you can bet someone's gonna want to get a peek at your titties. Even I would. I don't know why. It's just the way it is. We love boobs. Straight chicks love boobs. Gay chicks love boobs even more. Straight guys think boobs are the best thing since putty tats. Gay guys...well, there's your exception honey. If you want to dine and breastfeed and not feel "sexualized", go to a gay bar and feed away. But be prepared to have a line of guys in coordinated clothing saying, "Eew!" People loved boobies long before wine, beer, and Coors commercials with twins. So get used to it. Okay folks, let's get real...maybe "the breasts" are too sexualized. You be the judge. boobs.jpg

In order to make the test more scientific, we need more pictures.

i agree. we can't have too many breastesses on the screen... this is way too small (or huge depending on your context ;^) a sample.

Yes, boobs are great. Everyone loves them. But you can't stare at them while some poor child is trying to eat. That's just wrong.

But it's just too hard not to notice; my sister breastfed her kids for a long time, each one, and she never breastfed at the table at a restaurant. So my point is, 'natural' or not, if you're making everyone else uncomfortable, that's just wrong. Just like loud talking, coughing your head off in a theater, or microwaving mackeral in the breakroom.

Maybe someday another movement, driven by the LaPeePee society, will advocate urination in a cup anytime, anywhere. Just cuz it makes someone uncomfortable, shucks, it's natural to pee pee, so we should be allowed to do it, right? No.

And the fact is, boobies ARE a body part that are very sexually charged, so that adds to the discomfort someone will feel when a woman whips it out while they're trying to enjoy a nice meal.

who said the child was poor? i mean, i know that formula stuff can be expensive but, just because a woman chooses to breast feed doesn't mean she can't afford formula.
personally, i can't figure out what the big deal is. the smallest of baby blankets can cover it up, and even if something does fall out in trasition, there ain't anything to stare at after that.
Please sire, i must go back and face the peril!

so, let me get this right michela, are you again' this whole breast feeding in public thingy?
Tuesday, August 29, 2006 5:18:46 PM (Pacific Daylight Time, UTC-07:00)
as a mother who did breast-feed (at least until the dang biting became too much - youch!), i found this to be a very slippery slope. i *don't* like to make people uncomfortable, so - when going out - i would ask for a corner table or booth. i would also ask my dining mates if this would make them uncomfortable... meaning that if the answer to either question wasn't going my way, off to the car my little one and i would go. no biggie. (it's not like new mommies ever eat a warm meal, anyway :)

98 percent of the time, it wasn't a problem (it's not like we dined out all the time)... as iganja said, a strategically placed blanket and little skill is all that is really needed to keep things under wraps... and, well, if someone managed to catch a glimpse, it was only because they were *trying*... and, if that rocked their socks, so be it.

so it comes down to common courtesy, which - granted - is sorely lacking (not lactating) these days.

No I'm not opposed at all to the public boobie baby feeding, not at all. I just don't know why this lady would be surprised to find that it made other people in the restaurant uncomfortable. Then her big epiphany on the reason for that was "The breasts are so sexualized." Again, Duh!

And also, I really needed a reason to post a pic of a hot mamacita on the site; it's been a while. :)
